Calm Waters on Georgian Bay

GEORGIAN BAY TOUR AREAS

Rick Hill with Royal LePage In Touch Realty Brokerage Inc. services the area from Honey Harbour in the south to Parry Sound in the north including Cognashene, Go Home Bay, Sans Souci and all points in between.

This area of Georgian Bay is an Ontario real estate gem: a paradise on earth most suitable for three season recreational real estate with granite rocks rising out from the clear blue Georgian Bay waters; deciduous and coniferous trees outcropping from the Canadian Shield and of course the windswept pines as is depicted in our logo: What makes this area very unique is that it is highly unlikely its shorelines and islands will be urbanized with full time occupants as other cottage areas have become: i.e. it will truly remain cottage country.

One of the benefits of owning a cottage on the bay is that you don’t feel trapped as one does on inland lakes. You can get in your boat and have the freedom to travel the vast areas of the archipelago, Lake Huron and Michigan without even going through a lock. Many of our purchasers are boaters who have boated on Georgian Bay for years and want to put down roots.

Today, cottages can be found on some of the islands and mainland tracts of land that comprise this region which represents a large portion of the 30,000 islands archipelago. With hydro, telephone, cell phone, mobile internet and satellite internet serving most of this cottage region, life can be quite comfortable.

Most all of the cottages in this area are water access only. Smaller watercrafts (18’ – 22’) are good to operate within the inland areas where marinas are located (Honey Harbour and Cognashene). Venturing out to Go Home Bay and San Souci cottages requires a boat that can travel through open water on Georgian Bay.

The region is most renowned for being a cottaging destination: A summer playground that can include swimming, diving, water skiing, wake-boarding, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing activities. During the peak summer months the inland waterways are well traveled by most every type of watercraft. Many people also enjoy Georgian Bay by boating / yachting and camping with beacons, buoys and lighthouses to help to navigate the various waterways.

In terms of cottages and recreational properties the area is quite diverse and it is not uncommon to see modest cottages, stately cottages, flagstone walkways, tennis courts, motorboats, sailboats and even float planes.  Island and mainland water access properties in general are much larger than mainland drive-to properties and can be a strong selling feature when privacy and exclusivity are desired.

Being close to major urban centers the region serves as a vacation get-away, Honey Harbour, the southern-most destination in the region (and where we are based out of) is less than a two hour drive from Toronto.

For many cottagers their vacation properties have been passed down from generations and having grown up to experience Honey Harbour and Georgian Bay they continue this tradition with their own Family. A Georgian Bay real estate investment that can definitely serve well as a vacation get-away and retreat perfectly-suited for relaxation.
